Kim Ki-taek is a full character, and his motivation for that moment begins well before hand, based on the concept of "crossing the line". I’ve been waiting for the hype train to slow down to watch this movie so I could try to go into it without any expectations. Image Result For Parasite Film Negative Review. The Host and Mother are two of my all time favorite films. His son is almost in the best position, being allowed more humanity than the rest of the family by virtue of being the love interest of a teenage girl (a plot point that gave me pause due to its statutory faux-pas). This review was filed from the Toronto International Film Festival on … Whether sad or uplifting, or both, I want to leave the theatre with a new perspective on life. Thank you ! The first thing you see in Bong Joon Ho’s “Parasite,” a thriller of extraordinary cunning and emotional force, is an upper window in a … I don't go to the movies to watch a movie that is more of a social statement (looking at you BlacKKKlansman) and is a total downer from start to finish. [–]solidstatemasterrace -1 points0 points1 point 10 months ago (6 children), the build-up is great, not so sure about the rest, [–]its2ce[S] 2 points3 points4 points 10 months ago (5 children). Still a poor decision, and a cruel act, but one that can be understood. A closer examination of the politics of “Parasite” and its Oscar success reveals the extremity of Western culture’s global influence and Hollywood’s domination of the film industry, and it inadvertently sets a standard for foreign countries that desire inclusion in the glamour and prestige of the Academy Awards. The decisions made sense, the ambiguity reflected the messy world we inhabit, and neither the rich nor the poor were portrayed as too smart or stupid for their position in society. This is South Korean movie from a famous Korean director Bong Joon Ho. It is part of a character arc where a downtrodden man, one who has had quite the past day, finally loses it and crosses the line. Parasite won the Palm d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, which has become a yearly celebration of films that proclaim progressive, anti-American attitudes. Winner of the Palme d'Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, Parasite shows the extent to which we go to in order to live a comfortable life. I don't know... interesting, I suppose. I guess the whole scene doesn’t make much sense to me because Kim seems so beaten down I felt like he’d be more apt to to throw his hands up and tend to his family at that moment instead of stabbing Park. No es de sorprender que esté tan sobrevalorada por la crítica, porque la crítica ha evolucionado para mal, ahora son más doble-moral que nunca, estigmatizan unas películas y sobrevaloran otras. It's a shame most people are skipping over this. Vou ser honesto, até a metade do filme estava me divertindo com a tensão gerada, me parecia uma comédia estranha mas não conseguia parar de ver. If Parasite wins Best Picture, might as well put sticks of bubble gum in next year's envelopes. Bong Joon Ho’s movie Parasite, which reached US theaters last month after its initial South Korean release in May, has been a massive hit among critics and audiences alike. After its Palme d’Or–winning première at Cannes, it sold over ten million tickets in South Korea alone, making it that country’s fourth biggest-selling film … Incredibly overrated. Arguing with imdb’s user reviews is like arguing with a brick wall. Beautifully shot but terrible pacing, acting, scripting, and really seems to care more about shoving class differences down your throat and focusing on shock value over actual storytelling. Mark Kermode's film of the week Parasite Parasite review – a gasp-inducing masterpiece Park So-dam, left, and Choi Woo-shik play siblings who become tutors to the rich Park family in Parasite. There are some small stacks of books strapped together and some cardboard boxes, which look like they used to live in a bigger apartment with more space and storage. The one negative review of Parasite. The first hours of Parasite is a whirlwind of fun, fascinating, and engaging ideas. They paid for services, and again outside of the therapy received them. Meet the Park Family: the picture of aspirational wealth. ... Maybe for film reasons it is stretched a little, but to say that is breaks suspension of disbelief is going a bit … Still a very good movie, but a different one to the one I was already enjoying. Typically if critics loved a movie, I'll hate that movie. Parasite is the most overrated Oscar winner of all time and apparently nobody is allowed to discuss the flaws, plot holes, and very problematic subtext without being harassed. What a waste of time. A man steals a thousand dollars from a business and uses it to put a roof over his family's head for another month. I see the immoral actions of the Kim family to be a critique on social divide, but remember that they aren't to good guys. I didn't review Parasite when it first was released. The rich family had believable characters, but all the grifters in the story were absolutely not believable. Now I fear that the artsy crowd has its "The Artist", "Birdman", and "No Country for Old Men", unwatchable trash that won't rate higher than a test pattern on overnight TV. I don't agree that they were shown as stupid, or anything of the sort. Bong should have stopped while he was ahead. save hide report. Very often universal praise leads people to find things wrong with the film. A mostly successful detour into morally complex social realism. Whether sad or uplifting, or both, I want to leave the theatre with a new perspective on life. He sneaks out of the house by the skin of his toes, and travels barefoot through torrential rain from the height of luxury he may never enjoy again to the literal bottom of society, only to find that his home is not only flooded, but drowning in sewage. [–]Shattered_One 0 points1 point2 points 10 months ago (0 children). I understand the circumstances leading up to the decision for Kim to stab Park, the most convincing in my mind is the trauma of the flood and losing everything in the midst of being treated as a inhumane cog in Park’s life while essentially being spit on (by the act of Park plugging his nose when he went to get the keys). Bong Joon Ho brings his work home to Korea in this pitch-black modern fairytale. I was hoping we would be blessed with 2 consecutive Oscar winners - Green Book and 1917- made to simultaneously entertain and enlighten audiences. Even this does not quite break him, and he is willing to toe the line in the throws of this sadness. By the end of its brisk two hours and 11 minutes, it will have cycled through black comedy, social satire, suspense, and slapstick. Not at all impressed. ", [–]plexmaniac 10 points11 points12 points 10 months ago (1 child). Parasite left me flat, in spite of trying too hard to capture me. There is a great moment where Kim Ki-taek speaks about 50 college grads applying to a single security guard job, and that points to the economic situation that breeds desperation and a willingness to do what you have to in service of getting ahead. But to be fair, critical darling movies like this are typically not my cup of tea. [–]Jzahck 8 points9 points10 points 10 months ago (0 children). I will say everything I’ve heard and read has been very positive about the experience of watching it from friends, users and critics alike. There are lazy poor people and poor people who work extraordinarily hard. I have heard film critics rave about this movie since the Cannes movie festival in May of 2019.I have to say I was quite disappointed by this film.I thought the first hour was slow and quite average. There was one great 10 minute scene in this movie but after that the film just falls apart.I have to say that Parasite and The Irishman were two critics favorites that I thought were mediocre films. The world is both good and bending to my will, so why try to fix something that isn't broken? It’s a conversation starter in ways we only get a few times a year, and further reminder that Bong Joon-ho is one of the best filmmakers working today. Nothing really gripped me to say, "I like what I'm seeing! I wouldn't go that far. The thing that I didn't like about that was that it felt like watching a different movie after that point. Other times, this type of film is so lacerating, so numbing in how it withholds redemption or tenderness, that the evil it illustrates seems to offer no exit. You'll likely get a better reaction. Weird bad overacting, overhyped, cheesy and predictable story. It is one insult too many. They didn't like the movie, I disagree. A corporation poisons a local river to save mother rather than firing a dozen employees, and those who drink from it get sick. But Parasite might be his most intricate examination of the topic so far. That the film points toward this is not, as far as I read it, vilifying rich people, or even wealth. One minute we're watching some great tap-dancing, the next we're witnessing a mob of war-weary villagers beating an innocent woman. I would ask, is there a reason why you found the film to be a waste of time? Speaking to Parasite's Negative Reviews (SPOILER ALERT). Let's track his life from the Park family's impending return to the moment in question. I believe that all of these issues that people have had are easily explained within the film, and that the text and subtext of the work should be able to clear up any issues that people have. Add in the fact that the part-time job folding pizza boxes was set up by his kids, and I imagine that as their father -- as the senior person who's supposed to be able to provide for his family -- he's pretty damned pissed off. The second hour, plus, devolves into a repetitive, rude, ignorant, and self-absorbed malfunction of a movie and screenplay. A woman commits murder, and the victim assaulted her cousin. He is told that the money he is being paid means that he is not really allowed to have an opinion, or to analyze a situation. ... Parasite is a good film. They are both men, they are both people, and in the moment he speaks on honest emotion, doing what you have to for love, he is put in his place. Even though he previously showed signs of potential violence (like when he yelled at his wife) I thought he’d be more focused on his daughter, son, and wife instead of succumbing to a tunnel vision on Park, a person who he knew a very short while. I'm a huge fan of Joon-ho Bong's works. This comment is so unnecessary. He sees his bloodied and limp son being carried in the background, and only Park Da-hye really knows. He tries to be positive for his kids, but he's SO close to losing it completely. That's taking liberties with interpretation. And the Park family aren't bad guys. This time it's true. I believe that they were willing to work, willing to do whatever it took to keep food on the table and get a shot at living somewhere other than the basement where drunks pee right outside the window. This is literally the most intelligent and insightful review I’ve read in years. Not even joking. He is reduced to a set of keys, and all other things are unimportant. They are not heroes, and if you believe that for a story to be commentary it should have clearly defined good guys and bad guys and complete moral clarity and never an action to muddy the waters, then we disagree. Imagine your boss not only saying that you stink (foreshadowed brilliantly by Park Da-song's noticing the shared smell of the Kim family), but that your stench is an affront to him, bordering on grounds to be fired. They are both husbands who do what they can to love their wives.
